Graduation Requirements & Procedures

You've Made it! You're ready to Graduate. What do you need to do before walking down the aisle to accept your degree?

Requirements

All students who expect to receive a degree, diploma or certificate from Midlands Technical College must complete all the following requirements:

1. Must satisfactory complete all program requirements
2. Complete all program requirements with a minimum cummulative GPA of 2.0. In addition, certain programs may require higher GPA's in selected courses.
3. Earn a minimum of 25 percent of their program requirements at Midlands Technical College
4. Apply for graduation while currently enrolled at the college
   Graduation Application Due Dates:
   
   • Fall - October
   • Spring - February
   • Summer* - February or June
     
   Check the online college calendar for exact dates for the months listed above.
   *Students expecting to complete their program requirements during the summer may choose to participate in the preceding May's ceremony. If so, their graduation applications must be in the Records Office by the February date. If not, their graduation applications must be in the Records Office by the June date.

Procedures
The following steps explain the procedures for applying for graduation.

Obtain a "Graduation Clearance Form" online or from the Records office on either Airport or Beltline campus.

Complete Part 1 of form. Remember, print clearly, put your program name in as it appears in the College Catalogue, write in your expected graduation date and most importantly, don't forget to sign and date the form.

Financial Aid students must participate in Online Student Loan counseling by going to http://www.midlandstech.edu/sfs and selecting Online Exit Counseling or to http://mapping-your-future.org.

After completing Parts I and II of the form, turn the form in to your department office. Your Department Chair will complete Part III and forward the form to the Records Office for processing.

Additional Information. If you are finishing your program during the Summer or Fall semester, complete the Graduation Clearance form as outlined above. After the approval process, you will be sent your diploma. If there are any problems and you are not approved, you will be notified by the Records Office.

If you are completing your program during the Spring Semester, complete the form as outlined above. After the approval process, your diploma will be sent to you about a month after classes end.

There is one graduation ceremony in May for all MTC graduates. Students who are eligible to attend the graduation ceremony are those who:

• completed their program during the previous Summer Semester and have turned in their graduation clearance form and have been approved for graduation.
• completed their program during the previous Fall Semester and have turned in their graduation clearance form and have been approved for graduation.
• will be completing their program during the Spring Semester and have turned in their graduation clearance form by the sixth week of the Spring Semester.
• plan on graduating during the upcoming Summer Semester after the graduation ceremony date and have submitted their graduation clearance form by the sixth week of Spring Semester.

In March, ALL students who have been approved for Summer and Fall plus all Spring and Summer Applicants will be sent a Graduation Information Packet from the Records Office. This packet contains:

• Information on how to get your cap and gown and the cost.
• General graduation information.
• How to order the Graduation Video and the cost.
• Graduation Instructions. Where, when, what to do.
• Graduation Attendance Confirmation Form. You MUST send this in by the listed deadline to be eligible to participate in the graduation ceremony.

If you would like to participate in the graduation ceremony your application is due in the records office by the third week of Feburary.

Please note: Although you may participate in the graduation ceremony if you have an outstanding financial obligation, the degree, diploma or certificate will not be released until all financial obligations to the college have been satisfied.
