POSITION: Director of Student Financial Services
DEPARTMENT: Student Financial Services LOCATION: College-wide; Beltline Campus
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: Midlands Technical College, a growing, multi-campus, comprehensive two-year college with approximately 17,000 credit hour students and 30,000 non-credit students annually, seeks a Director of Student Financial Services. Midlands Technical College is located in the Central Midlands of South Carolina and is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
The Director of Student Financial Services is responsible for planning and implementing all State aid, Federal Title IV programs, Veterans’ Affairs services, loan programs, federal work-study and part-time student employment programs, and the college scholarship programs. The Director provides strategic leadership in analyzing, designing and implementing computer and web applications in student financial aid programs.
The Director implements quality assessment measures and monitors a database to ensure integrity of data and compliance with federal and state requirements. The director effectively communicates information on Student Financial Services programs and policies with groups inside and outside the college and serves as the liaison between the college and community in regard to financial aid-related services. The Director also conducts research and analysis on the financial needs of students and the academic progress of students receiving financial assistance, provides management reports to senior college officials and advises college administration on financial aid issues.
The Director works with a staff of 20 full-time personnel on multiple campuses and a varied number of contract personnel to deliver a high level of customer service and compliance quality. The Director involves staff in appropriate education and training activities to keep abreast of changing regulations and technology applications and promotes staff adherence to high standards of ethical and professional practices.
The Director is responsible for managing operational and restricted state and federal funds in excess of $60 million and for ensuring appropriate compliance with established fiscal practices. The Director is responsible for preparing and submitting required state and federal reports, including annual FISAP reports, Program Participation Agreement (PPA) updates, state reconciliation reports and audit responses for student financial aid programs.
The Director will attend legislative, regulatory agency, college commission and advisory group hearings and represent the college through reports, presentations and discussions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Master’s degree and (2) years experience in student services programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A Master’s degree preferred in Student Personnel Services, administration or management or a related field, and 6-8 years experience in student services programs, including experience in the administration of federal programs. Applicant must have thorough knowledge of federal guidelines, student aid processing, student development, finance and administration. Must have progressive leadership experience in financial aid and demonstrate understanding of Federal and State financial aid programs. Preference will be considered for applicants who have worked with Datatel student information systems. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, the public, auditors and representatives of lending institutions is required. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare complex implementation procedures for office operations.
HIRING RANGE: $44,825-$82,930, Band 07, SC State Classification System. Excellent benefits program that includes: employer provided health, dental, and life insurance; paid holidays; sick and annual leave; and state retirement.
