Ropes Course

"I regard it as the foremost task of education to instill the survival of these
qualities - an undefeatable spirit, an enterprising curiosity, ready willingness
for sensible self-denial, tenacity in pursuit, and above all, compassion."

Kurt Hahn - Founder of Outward Bound

An indispensable characteristic for succeeding in today's complex, fast paced world is the ability to work with others to achieve a shared goal. One component of the Gear Up program gave students the opportunity to experiment with and learn about group interdependence, analytical thinking, problem solving, perseverance, and mutual support in the face of difficult challenges.

For two exciting and challenging Saturdays students braved the outdoors to participate in the Gear Up Ropes Course. The ropes course presents students with a series of progressively more difficult, yet compelling physical obstacles that they must work together to overcome. In the process of scaling an "giant spider web", "swinging across a huge crevasse in the Amazon" and other such activities, students were encouraged to strive for excellence, learn the value of trust and cooperation, and experience both success and frustration in a supportive environment.

They also had real good time!
