American Red Cross First Aid Course

Mr. Greg Taylor before the Green Team discussing types of wounds.

The students involved in GearUp have been participating in an American Red Cross first aid course. Within a very short period of time, these highly motivated students have learned how to prevent and treat patients with a variety of problems. The problems in which the students have demonstrated competency ranges from the painful, but not life-threatening bruise, to complex medical problems such as diabetes and seizures requiring immediate medical care. Along with discussions on these on other topics, these stellar first aiders have had hands on practice in controlling bleeding and splinting injured body parts using the three types of splints, anatomical, soft, and rigid. If an emergency happens, if one of the GearUp students comes to the rescue, you can rest assured that you are in good hands!
