Choosing a college

Deciding on what college or university to attend is a key step in the equation of enrolling into a post secondary school. When choosing a college or university that is best for you, you should consider these questions.

Here are a few questions to consider in deciding what kind of a college interests you:

• Is the location important?
• Would you prefer a small town or a large city?
• Would you prefer a college close to home or far away?
• Would you prefer a small college (100-2500 students) medium sized (2500-7500) or large university (7500 +)?
• Would you prefer single-sex or co-educational?
• Would you prefer living on campus or commuting?
• Will participation in specific extracurricular activities be important (newspaper, student government, fraternity/sorority)?
• Do you want to play intercollegiate sports?
• Will you be eligible for an academic scholarship?
• How important is cost? Financial aid?
• Are you more interested in the development of technical or vocational skills?
• Will you need support services (study skills, counseling, disability)?
• Will you be able to exempt college courses by taking Advanced Placement Courses?
• Would you like to participate in a co-op program, alternating work with classes?
• Is accreditation of the academic program or of the institution you would like to attend important?
• Would attending a church-related institution be important to you?
