Q. What is a GED?

A. The GED is a General Educational Development, which consist of 5 Multiple Choice tests. It is also the equivalent to receiving your High School Diploma.

Q. Why do I need a GED?

A. The GED is a requirement for college admissions and employment. They are also credentials to prove that you have completed high school.

Q. Who Can Take The GED Test?

A. To take the GED test you must be at least 17 years old, NOT enrolled In a High School, and do NOT already have a High School Diploma.

Q. What is the Age Eligibility?

A. The Age Eligibility are as follows:

    You must be at least 17 years of age
    If you are over 18 and still in High School you can NOT take the GED
    If you are under the age of 19 you must have a Verification of School Withdrawal form

Q. What are the Residency Requirements?

A. The residency requirements are the following: South Carolina Resident

    Present a current SC driver’s license or ID card Valid SS#

    For Non-Resident of South Carolina Military personnel and dependants Legal immigrants or visitors from another state you must indicate permanent address and last school

Q. How do I apply for the GED?

A. You can obtain an application from your Local Adult Education Center or The SC Department of Education. It is best to apply as early as possible before the test. Applications are accepted up to 2 days prior to the test contingent on seat availability.

A. No, the GED test is only offered at an approved GED test site!!!
