DESCRIPTION:
The Welding Technologies I Certificate prepares students for employment and advancement as welders in the welding industry. Students will receive training in the latest welding technology as well as the traditional welding skills and a good foundation in basic welding theory, metallurgy, and blueprint reading. Safety is stressed throughout the program. These skills will enable students to produce structurally sound and quality welds. Employment opportunities are found in maintenance, construction, manufacturing and other related fields.

PLACEMENT TEST SCORES REQUIRED TO ENROLL IN CURRICULUM COURSES:
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Students must meet the required placement test scores before enrolling in curriculum courses.
- Students are required to purchase approximately $100 worth of welding safety kit and small hand tools.
- Courses taken in this program may be applied toward the AOT degree program if the student later elects to pursue the degree.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:
Students must complete all course requirements, earn an overall 2.0 GPA, and apply for graduation to receive their degree or certificates.
MINIMUM CREDITS REQUIRED FOR GRADUATION: 28 CREDIT HOURS
PROGRAM NOTES:
- For admission a student must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D. and the Physical ability to carry out normal activities. Previous experience CAN be evaluated upon entry into the program.
- Any substitute must be approved by the department head.
- Transfer credit courses will be determined by department head.

- A GPA of at least 2.0 is required for graduation. For other graduation requirements see MTC catalogue.

- Students are required to purchase recommended tools during their first semesters of technology.
- Required attendance for all Welding Technology classes is 85%.
- Electives must be selected from the list of approved courses for the Welding Technology program.
- Students meeting admissions requirements in Reading (ASSET 35+ or COMPASS 61+) may enter Welding Technology courses.
- Students will be required to purchase their own personal safety equipment and tools. A tool list for each course is available upon request.
- All courses without adequate enrollment are subject to cancellation. This program is offered only at AIRPORT CAMPUS.
- Students may enroll in either the day or the evening program and fulfill all requirements for various certificates.
- Elective courses are to be chosen in consultation with the student's academic advisor.
- ALL WELDING TECHNOLOGY STUDENTS MUST BE ADVISED BY A WELDING TECHNOLOGY ADVISOR.
