For students planning to transfer to the USC College of Liberal Arts

Students planning to major in Liberal Arts at the University of South Carolina must complete a cultural awareness core of courses. Students must complete a minimum of three different courses for a total of 9 hours, with at least one course from each of the following:

1. a course treating in some specific way the culture of the student’s foreign language (such as HIS 109 for Spanish or Portuguese; HIS 106 for French or Swahili; HIS 108 for students planning to take Chinese, Korean, or Japanese at USC)
2. a course (excluding American History) in North American Studies (such as ENG 203, PSC 201)
3. a course in a culture other than American or Western European (such HIS 106, 108, 109, ENG 210, ENG 212)
