RAPID PROTOTYPING
Certificate in Engineering Technology (RPT6)

DESCRIPTION: The main purpose of the design process is to create sets of drawings that provide all the information required to build and assemble mechanical parts and buildings. An important part of this process is creating physical models of the parts and buildings to make certain they meet the client’s requirements. Although many models are still manufactured using conventional machine tools, advances in computer aided design (CAD) software and rapid prototyping allow the production of 3-dimensional physical models to be built directly from the computer models. This process requires Rapid Prototyping Technicians to understand the design and manufacturing process as well as be capable of using sophisticated computer software such as 2-dimensional computer aided design (CAD) software and 3-dimensional modeling software.
The Rapid Prototyping Certificate prepares students for employment as entry-level technicians capable of supporting the 2D and 3D CAD and prototyping requirements of most design firms.
The Building Systems, Compute Aided Design, Mechanical Systems, Manufacturing, and Rapid Prototyping Certificates may be combined together with general education courses to obtain an Associate in Occupational Technology Degree in Design and Manufacturing.
