PRE-MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY

DESCRIPTION:
The Pre-Medical Laboratory Certificate is Phase I of the two-phase Medical Laboratory Technology Program. This program provides the students with the general education competencies required to enter the technical, clinical phase of the Medical Laboratory Technology Program. The student will gain skills in written and oral communication, math, science, psychology, problem solving, research and computers which are needed as a foundation for success as a Medical Laboratory Technician.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 30 semester credit hours is required for graduation.
  • A minimum grade of "C" must be attained in all Pre-Medical Laboratory Technology curriculum courses.
  • No Science or Math course may be repeated more than one time.
 

PROGRAM NOTES:

  1. If the applicant meets interview eligibility criteria for Medical Laboratory Technology then the minor designation of MLTQ will be given to the MLT6 major.
  2. The certificate must be completed with a grade of “C” or better in each course and a minimum GPA of 2.0.
  3. Course substitutes must be approved by the Program Director.
  4. Transfer of credit for both MLT and non-MLT courses will be determined by Program Director.
  5. For probation, suspension, and dismissal policies, see MLT student handbook and MTC Catalog. For academic progression policies, see MTC catalog and MLT student handbook.
  6. A course may be repeated only once to obtain a passing or higher grade.
  7. No more than 2 courses may be repeated to obtain a passing grade.
  8. All sciences and math courses must have been completed within 3 years of this request.
  9. After finishing the Pre-MLT Certificate the student after consultation with their academic advisor must complete the top section of“Certification Request for Pre-MLT Certificate Completion” This request contains three sections. After completion of the student section, the request will be forwarded to the Program Director for the Medical Laboratory Technology Program along with a completed Graduation Clearance Form.
