  • COMPUTER SCIENCE TRANSFER PROGRAM
  • COMPUTER INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER PROGRAM
  • ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING TRANSFER PROGRAM
  • MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TRANSFER PROGRAM
  •

    DESCRIPTION:

Within the Associate in Science program, the first two years of an engineering major are offered. Students may choose from seven disciplines: Electrical, Computer, Civil and Environmental, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Information Systems. The two-year sequence of Engineering Transfer courses provides courses that are nearly equivalent to the first two years of Engineering or Information Technology at the University of South Carolina (USC). external link Students may transfer after completing these courses or may take a few additional courses and receive the Associate in Science degree before transferring.

BEGINNING SEMESTERS: Fall, Spring, Summer (Fall is best)

CAMPUS: Beltline (non-engineering courses available on Airport)

PLACEMENT TEST SCORES REQUIRED TO ENROLL IN CURRICULUM COURSES:

    Algebra Skills: ALG 76
    ENG WSAMP 30

    GRADUATION AND TRANSFER REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of 62 semester credit hours and an overall GPA of at least 2.0 are required for the A.S. Degree. However, students who wish to take the Engineering Transfer sequence of courses for transfer to USC and acquire the A.S. degree will accumulate 77-89 credit hours. An overall GPA of at least 3.0 in all course work, including repeated courses, is required for transfer to USC.

    PROGRAM NOTES:

    1. Each transfer course must be completed with a grade of C or better.
    2. All applicants to USC and requests for transfer of credit are evaluated individually. Thus, it is strongly recommended that a student discuss transferring with USC's Admissions staff and a USC Engineering advisor early in the student's academic career at MTC.
    3. To transfer to the University of South Carolina's College of Engineering and Information Technology,  external link students must complete the course work required for the selected engineering discipline with grades of "C" or better in each course and have an overall grade point average of at least 3.0.
    4. Students transfering to other colleges and universities should determine what MTC courses will be accepted. A student planning to transfer to any other four-year institution is strongly urged to discuss curriculum and transfer requirements with a representative of that institution early in his or her academic career at Midlands Technical College.
    5. Students not meeting the requirement for entry into MAT 140, ENG 101 and EGR 275 will have preparatory work to complete and may need more than four semesters to finish the engineering transfer course sequence or the Associate in Science Degree.
    6. CHM 100 is recommended for students with no prior courses in chemistry.
    7. The EGT 106 prerequisite to EGR 275 may be exempted, by test, if the student has previous CAD experience.
    8. Chemical Engineering students may take CHM 211 and CHM 212 for CHEM 333 and 334, respectively, at USC.
    9. These requirements are subject to change as USC revises its curricula. Students should consult their advisors periodically about changes USC may have made. Advisors can help students select humanities and social science courses to meet both the Associate in Science degree and the Bachelor of Science Engineering degree requirements.
    10. While meeting the AS degree requirements:
      • Chemical Engineering students transferring to USC may take up to seven Humanities & Social and Behavioral Science courses in up to four fields (four different course prefixes). These seven courses include ENG 101 & 102, one required history, and one required fine arts. The English literature and one of the two social sciences courses, required for the Midlands A.S. Degree, may be included.
      • Civil & Environmental Engineering students may take all six Humanities & Social and Behavioral Science courses required at USC. These six courses include ENG 101 & 102, one required history, and one required fine arts. The English literature and one of the two social sciences courses, required for the Midlands A.S. degree, may be included, to make six courses.
      • Computer Engineering students transferring to USC may take five of the six Humanities & Social and Behavioral Science courses required at USC. These five courses include ENG 101 & 102, one required history, one required fine arts, and a social science course. The English literature and one of the two social sciences courses, required for th A.S. Degree, may not be included.
      • Electrical Engineering students transferring to USC may take four of the six Humanities courses required at USC. These four courses include ENG 101 & 102, one required history, and one required fine arts. Selection of PHI 115, in conjunction with the history and fine arts courses, will complete the Liberal Arts requirements for Electrical Engineering at USC.
      • Mechanical Engineering students may all six Humanities & Social and Behavioral Science courses required at USC. These six courses include ENG 101 & 102, one required history, and one required fine arts. The English literature and one of the two social sciences courses, required for the Midlands A.S. Degree, may be included to make six courses.
