POWER GENERATION AND DELIVERY
Certificate in Engineering Technology (PGD6)
DESCRIPTION:
The Power Generation and Delivery certificate is a two semester program that addresses the fundamentals of power generation and alternate energy sources. Students are eligible to enroll in this program only after the basic EET entry requirements are completed (the same requirements to get into the degree program) and the prerequisites for individual courses within the certificate are met. The program covers fundamentals of three phase power circuits, transmission lines, transformers, and fuel cells, and the associated systems.

PLACEMENT TEST SCORES REQUIRED TO ENROLL IN CURRICULUM COURSES:
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:
26 credit hours are required for this certificate. In addition to college graduation requirements, students must earn a cumulative grade of “C” or better in all courses offered in the Engineering Technology and Engineering Transfer Department to be eligible for graduation.
PROGRAM NOTES:
- Students are required to purchase a graphing calculator and a digital multimeter.
Students are required to purchase a small set of hand tools. Specifications are
available only through the departmental advisor.
- A basic knowledge of algebra is recommended.
- Color blindness, while not eliminating the student from entering the program, may
cause problems with identification of color coded electronics components.
- Students with a physical handicap should inform the department head or their
departmental advisor of the type handicap and seek advice on the impact the
disability may have in the student's field.
- It is highly recommended that the student discuss their selected field of study and
their expectations of the area with the department head or a departmental advisor.
- Transfer credit for both electronics and non-electronics courses is determined by
the department head.
- Evening courses will begin once a year, in the Fall semester, and continue in a
logical prerequisite sequence until completion as long as student demand is
sufficient.
- Failure to follow the course sequence as offered or failure to meet the prerequisite
for an offered course may necessitate the postponement of that course for at least 1
semester (4 months) and take the student out of the course sequence being
followed by his or her entry group. Students could wait up to 1 year before the
course sequence starts over.
- Elective courses are to be chosen in consultation with the student's
departmental advisor. Prerequisites must be met before any course can be taken.
Waiver of prerequisites can be done only with the approval of the department
chair and the departmental advisor.
