NURSING AOT

Associate in Occupational Technology (AOT)

DESCRIPTION:
The associate degree program in Occupational Technology (AOT) allows students to meet their individual needs. Students work with their advisors to develop a specific contract for the courses they will take under the AOT Degree. (To receive financial assistance, veterans must have prior approval of their programs by a VA counselor.)

PROGRAM NOTES:

  1. The Associate in Occupational Technology degree program requires 15 credits in general education courses. One component of this core must be designed to develop oral and written communication skills and another component must be designed to develop computational skills. Other components of the core must be drawn from each of the following area: humanities or fine arts
  2. A minimum of 40 semester-hour credits in major courses. The major consists of a minimum of 28 semester-hour credits in an approved degree, diploma or technical education certificate program and an additional 12 semester-hour credits in another technical specialty.
  3. A range of 5-29 semester-hour credits of electives and/or other additional courses is required for graduation.
  4. Each course may be repeated only once to obtain a passing grade or a higher grade at any time in college course work.
  5. Admission to nursing programs is on a "first qualified, first accepted" basis. Applicants who complete the admission requirements to enter the college and the nursing program for which they are applying are admitted on a space available basis. Admission requirements vary with the specific nursing program. Being admitted to Practical Nursing and successfully completing the Diploma in Practical Nursing does not guarantee admission to upper level A.D.N. courses.
  6. BIO 210, 211 and 225 (if required) must be completed within five years of admission to the nursing program.
  7. COL 103 or ENG 102 may be substituted for COL 105.

TO QUALIFY FOR NURSING ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA MUST BE MET:

  1. SAT
    Students must achieve the required SAT score within 3 years of applying to nursing.

    For the Associate Degree Nursing (A.D.N.) program:
    Total 1000 (minimum verbal 500, minimum math 500).

    For the Practical Nursing (P.N.) program:
    Total 1000 (minimum verbal 500, minimum math 500).

  2. ACT
    Students must achieve the required ACT score within 3 years of applying to nursing.

    For the Associate Degree Nursing (A.D.N.) program:
    Composite 20 (minimum verbal 20; minimum math 23).

    For the Practical Nursing (P.N.) program:
    Composite 20 (minimum verbal 20; minimum math 23).

  3. DEGREE BASED
    Hold a baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college with a final cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher at time of the degree or hold an associate degree from a regionally accredited college with a final cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher at time of the degree.

  4. PRE- NURSING CERTIFICATE
    The Pre-Nursing Certificate must be completed with a 2.75 or higher GPA on these 8 courses, with no grade lower than a "C", with no more than one repeat per course, and with completion of the graduation clearance form in the final semester.
