Certificate in Pre-Nursing (NUR6)

DESCRIPTION:
This certificate program is designed to prepare students for success in the nursing program; to provide an alternative method of admission to nursing for the student with low SAT or ACT scores.

BEGINNING SEMESTER: All Semesters

CAMPUS: Airport, Beltline (NUR 115 is offered on Airport Campus only)

PROGRAM NOTES:

1. The Pre-Nursing Certificate is 25 Credit hours. It is one way to qualify for admission to nursing.
2. Students seeking admission to a nursing program must qualify in one of the following four ways:
   1. SAT
      Students must achieve the required SAT score within 3 years of applying to nursing.

      For the Associate Degree Nursing (A.D.N.) program:
      Total 1000 (minimum verbal 500, minimum math 500).

      For the Practical Nursing (P.N.) program:
      Total 1000 (minimum verbal 500, minimum math 500).

   2. ACT
      Students must achieve the required ACT score within 3 years of applying to nursing.

      For the Associate Degree Nursing (A.D.N.) program:
      Composite 20 (minimum verbal 20; minimum math 23).

      For the Practical Nursing (P.N.) program:
      Composite 20 (minimum verbal 20; minimum math 23).

   3. DEGREE BASED
      Hold a Baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college with a final cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher at the time of the degree or hold an Associate degree from a regionally accredited college with a final cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher at the time of the degree.

   4. PRE- NURSING CERTIFICATE
      The Pre-Nursing Certificate must be completed with a 2.75 or higher GPA on these 8 courses, with no grade lower than a "C", with no more than one repeat per course, and with completion of the graduation clearance form in the final semester.

3. Each course may be repeated only once to obtain a passing grade or a higher grade at any time in college course work.
4. Admission to nursing programs is on a "first qualified, first accepted" basis. Applicants who complete the admission requirements to enter the college and the nursing program for which they are applying are admitted on a space available basis. Admission requirements vary with the specific nursing program. Being admitted to Practical Nursing and successfully completing the Diploma in Practical Nursing does not guarantee admission to upper level A.D.N. courses.
5. BIO 210, 211 and 225 (if required) must be completed within five years of admission to the nursing program.
6. COL 103 or ENG 102 may be substituted for COL 105.
