LEGAL ASSISTANT/PARALEGAL TECHNOLOGY

DESCRIPTION:
This program is designed to prepare students to assist lawyers in carrying out their professional responsibilities. Working under the direct supervision of the attorney, the legal assistants/paralegals must be mindful of prohibitions against lay persons practicing law. The legal assistant does research, prepares documents, and interviews clients. Employment opportunities are also available in such diverse areas as insurance, real estate and mortgage companies, government agencies, courts and banks.

Beltline (Evening: Limited to LEG 135 & LEG 121)

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of 24 Semester hours is required for graduation with an overall GPA of at least 2.0. A grade of C or better must be attained in each LEG course.

PROGRAM NOTES:

  1. LEG 135 must be taken in the first term.
  2. Students may enter the program any semester. However, unless they can demonstrate sufficient knowledge or work experience, some legal courses may be unavailable prior to the completion of LEG 135, Introduction to Law and Ethics.
  3. Student must possess a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution before entering this certificate program.
  4. To be successful in this field, students should possess strong communication and computer/word processing skills.
