LEGAL ASSISTANT/PARALEGAL TECHNOLOGY

DESCRIPTION:
This program is designed to prepare students to assist lawyers in carrying out their professional responsibilities. Working under the direct supervision of the attorney, the legal assistants/paralegals must be mindful of prohibitions against lay persons practicing law. The legal assistant does research, prepares documents, and interviews clients. Employment opportunities are also available in such diverse areas as insurance, real estate and mortgage companies, government agencies, courts and banks.

PLACEMENT TEST SCORES REQUIRED TO ENROLL IN CURRICULUM COURSES:
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of 60 Semester hours is required for graduation with an overall GPA of at least 2.0.
- Students must earn a grade of "C" or better in all of the courses offered within the Business and Information Systems Technology departments for the courses to count toward graduation. This includes courses with the following prefixes: ACC, BAF, BUS, CPT, CRP, IST, LEG, MGT, MKT and OST.
PROGRAM NOTES:
- Some minimum typing skill is required in order to complete the required computer/word processing application courses.
- Students may enter the program any semester. However, unless they can demonstrate sufficient work experience, most legal courses may be unavailable prior to the completion of LEG 135, Introduction to Law and Ethics.
