HUMAN SERVICES PROGRAM

DESCRIPTION:
A program designed to prepare students to serve as trained Human Services practitioners capable of filling entry and mid-level positions. The student who completes the program is qualified to work in a variety of jobs which require a basic understanding of human behavior. Students will study the causes, nature, and consequences of behavior and develop an understanding of how to assist others in managing their behavior.

PLACEMENT TEST SCORES REQUIRED TO ENROLL IN CURRICULUM COURSES:
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of 68 semester hours is required with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better.
PROGRAM NOTES:
- Students must successfully complete 32 hours of required Human Services courses and 30 hours of required courses in general education. Additionally, the student must complete two (2) departmental electives (6 credits).
- Many required courses are transferrable to four year institutions. However, requirements for transfer students vary widely among senior colleges and universities. It is strongly recommended that the student discuss transferring to a four-year institution with a representative from that institution early in the student's academic career at Midlands Technical College.
- Students must receive clearance from the director of the Human Services Program prior to enrolling in the Supervised Field Placements (HUS 250, 251). See: Mary M. Rawls
- A grade of C or higher must be attained in ENG 101, ENG 102, BIO 110 and all Departmental electives, as well as major course requirements. (All course labeled PSY, SOC, HUS, CRJ or ECD).
- Students (new & transfer) are required to successfully complete HUS 102, Personal & Professional Development In The Help Professional, with a "C" or better.
- It is recommended (but not required) that HUS 101and HUS 230 be taken in the same semester.
