PRE-HEALTH CARE

Certificate in Pre-Health Care (HLC6)

DESCRIPTION:
This certificate program is designed for students seeking admission to Health Sciences programs but not meeting program admissions criteria. Students work closely with advisors to select courses that will help confirm their career choices and strengthen their academic skills.

Students who complete this certificate should be well prepared for acceptance into the desired program, but the certificate does not guarantee admission into that program.

CRITERIA TO BECOME INTERVIEW ELIGIBLE (IEL):
Placement on the list will be as of the date when one of the following criteria has been met:

  • SAT/ACT (Published score) or
  • HOBET (Published Score) or
  • Completion of the above certificate with a 2.5 GPA and "C" or higher in each course. Math and Science (including all AHS) courses may be repeated only one time to qualify under this entry criteria.

STUDENTS FINISHING THE CERTIFICATE WILL BE DEEMED INTERVIEW ELIGIBLE IF:

  1. They have a GPA of 2.5
  2. They have a "C" or higher in all AHS, MATH and Science Courses
  3. They have completed all DVS requirements prior to interview eligibility.

 
PROGRAM NOTES:

  1. STUDENTS SHOULD SELECT COURSES APPROPRIATE FOR THE PROGRAM THEY PLAN TO ENTER. This can be done by checking Program information in this Advisement Manual.
  2. This certificate is 32 Credit hours.
  3. A student may not take an AHS, Math, or Science course more than two times to obtain the "C" for eligibility purposes as is standard with all other HS programs.
  4. Students should select the math appropriate for the major they intend to pursue. If a Health Care major requires MAT 155 the student may take it instead of MAT 101.
  5. Students going into programs requiring BIO 210 & 211, will take BIO 210 instead of BIO 112 and will take BIO 211 as their Program Elective.
  6. Students should select the biology appropriate for the major they intend to pursue.
  7. Completion of this certificate does not guarantee admission into the desired program.
  8. Science and math courses cannot be more than 3 years old.
  9. COL 103 or COL 105 are recommended as guided electives for students enrolled in reading courses.
  10. Students applying to Health Sciences programs may experience delays in entering their program because of the limited number of students accepted each year. Math and science courses must have been taken within three years of matriculation into the Health Science programs. Other general education courses must have been taken within the previous 10 years of program entry.
