DESCRIPTION:

To provide new students, as well as working professionals in the health and social services fields, with specialized knowledge of gerontological issues that will help them better understand and serve older adults.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of 27 semester hours is required with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better.

PROGRAM NOTES:

  1. Students must successfully complete 27 hours of required courses.
  2. HUS 260, Human Services Special Topics, will be set up in module fashion. Topics will include the various dementias, elder law issues, and economics of aging and public policy issues.
  3. HUS 201, Family System Dynamics, will focus on “family-centered” aging, care giving issues to include grandparents caring for grandchildren.
  4. HUS 134, Activity Therapy, will teach students the skills to develop a range of activities that will address both the “healthy” seniors as well as “unhealthy” (physically, mentally and psychologically challenged).

Third Semester
HUS 206 Death and Dying RDG 100, ENG 100;
