opens new browser windowOpens a new browser window

DESCRIPTION:
The Engineering Science Certificate is designed for students desiring to transfer to an engineering program at a four-year institution but who do not necessarily desire an Associates in Science Degree from Midlands Technical College. This certificate provides a program of study for engineering transfer students who desire to take approximately the first year of a BS engineering program at a technical college before transferring to a senior institution. All of the courses in the Engineering Science Certificate can also be used as part of the Associate Degree so a student desiring to complete the Associates Degree can smoothly continue on in the program and receive as Associates Degree.

BEGINNING SEMESTER: FALL

CAMPUS: BELTLINE

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PROGRAM ADMISSION:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • MTC Placement test minimum scores as follows:

ASSET SCORES OR COMPASS SCORES
RDG 40 Reading Skills: RS 80

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 32 semester hours is required for graduation.
  • Students must receive a grade of "C" or better in all courses listed in curriculum.

PROGRAM NOTES:

  1. High school preparation for engineering should include a strong emphasis on mathematics, science and basic English language skills.
  2. Developmental Studies classes are available to students who wish to pursue this certificate but who do not meet the minimum ASSET or COMPASS scores or grade requirements listed above. Students not meeting the requirements for entry into Mathematics 140 and English 101 will have preparatory work to complete that may extend the time required to complete the certificate.
  3. The courses in the certificate are typically found in the first year of an engineering program and the certificate is based on South Carolina's Engineering Transfer Block so the courses should transfer to any institution in the state. However, all engineering programs are different so a student planning to transfer to any four-year institution is strongly urged to discuss the curriculum and transfer requirements with a representative of that institution early in his or her academic career at Midlands Technical College.
  4. To transfer to the University of South Carolina's College of Engineeringexternal link students must successfully complete each transfer course with grades of "C" or better and have an overall grade point average of at least 3.0.
