BIOTECHNOLOGY LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

DESCRIPTION:
The Biotechnology Laboratory Technology Certificate is designed to prepare entry-level technicians to function in the biotechnical industry.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Specific admission criteria to the Biotechnology Laboratory Technician Program include:
Completion of the Pre-Health Care Certificate with a 2.5 GPA or higher
OR
HOBET Composite 50% Reading 50 % MTC Writing Sample of 30
OR
SAT Total 910 Verbal 430 MTC Writing Sample of 30
OR
ACT 19 Comp Verbal 18 MTC Writing Sample of 30
OTHER ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
  • High school or college credits in science/math courses (algebra, biology, chemistry, physics)
    recommended
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Observation in clinical setting (may be completed after interview)
    by entry date
  • TOEFL Test for international students
  • Interview by the Biotechnology Laboratory Technician Admissions Committee.
  • Physical Examination with TB test (completed after interview) by entry date
  • Certified in basic first aid and CPR within three months of start date in program
  • Program Interview
  • Emotional and physical ability to carry out normal activities of medical laboratory practice
    as determined by physical examination by a physician and the completion of a personal health history

 

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of 27 semester credit hours is required for graduation. A minimum grade of "C" must be attained in all Biotechnology Laboratory Technician and support courses. No AHS, Science or Math course may be repeated more than one time.

PROGRAM NOTES:

All student entering the Biotechnology Laboratory Technician Program must make an advisement appointment with Ed Nicholson, Department Chair, Health Sciences . Call 822-3434 for an appointment.

  1. A pre-admission interview by the Biotechnology Laboratory Technician Committee is required prior to acceptance.
  2. Occasionally, for certain highly qualified applicants, one or more of the objective criteria may be waived or modified.
  3. Course substitutes must be approved by the Program Director.
  4. Transfer of credit for courses will be determined by Program Director.

  6. For academic progression policies, see MTC catalog and student handbook.
  7. Upon earning satisfactory admissions test scores, students seeking entry into the Biotechnology Laboratory Technician Program are granted a pre-entry interview.
  8. Students may not retake any course in the Biotechnology Laboratory Technician certificate program more than once.
