DESCRIPTION:
The Automotive curriculum at Midlands Technical College is designed to provide theory and hands-on training to prepare students to be a well-rounded entry-level Automotive Technician. The program emphasizes diagnostics, tune-up service, engine overhaul, air conditioning repair and all phases of chassis service as well as the reconditioning and replacement of component parts of automatic & manual transmissions. Graduates of the Automotive Technology program work in dealerships, independent garages and other related businesses as technicians, parts personnel, service writers and field representatives for manufacturers.

The Automotive program is unique in that each of the technical courses is designed to prepare students to become certified in that specialty by the National Institute for Automotive Services Excellence (A.S.E.).

A.S.E. certifies technicians in eight specialty areas. Certification examinations are administered twice yearly at selected sites through out the United States including Midlands Technical College. Six separate certificate programs have been developed based on eight ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) categories.
These ASE catagories are listed as follows:
  • Automatic Transmission/Transaxle
  • Brakes
  • Engine Performance
  • Engine Repair
  • Electrical Systems
  • Heating and Air Conditioning Systems
  • Manual Drive Train and Axle
  • Steering and Suspension.
