Business Department's Mission Statement

Midlands Technical College's Business Department provides an innovative, up-to-date learning environment that enables individuals to achieve their personal, professional and educational goals for the purpose of contributing to the economic growth of the community.


DESCRIPTION:
A program designed to teach the student accounting and auditing techniques. The student is introduced to general accounting procedures and is also exposed to accounting procedures used in tax accounting, cost accounting and auditing. There are a variety of electives available to students in this program to allow them to tailor the program to suit their individual needs. In addition to learning basic accounting theory, the student will also learn the latest techniques in automated accounting using modern computers and electronic spreadsheets.

NOTE:
This program is not designed to transfer to senior colleges and universities although some courses may transfer.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of 69 semester hours is required for graduation. Students must earn a grade of "C" or better in all of the courses offered within the Business and Information Systems Technology departments for the courses to count toward graduation. This includes courses with the following prefixes: ACC, BAF, BUS, CPT, CRP, IST, LEG, MGT, MKT and OST.

PROGRAM NOTES:

  1. This Program is not designed to transfer to senior colleges and universities although some individual courses may transfer. See your advisor about transfer.
  2. A student may substitute MAT 102 or a higher math course for MAT 155.
  3. CPT 170 should be taken as early in sequence of courses as possible.
  4. Principles courses must be taken first. ACC 112 should be taken in the first semester of the degree program.
  5. Catalogue prerequisites are required before taking the upper level courses. Advisors should note one and two semester sequence of courses when scheduling students to be sure to allow enough semesters to cover courses in sequence.
  6. The student must earn a grade of "C" or better in business courses for these courses to count toward graduation.
  7. At least one course must be taken from the list of approved Humanities courses.
