demonstrating proper keyboarding techniques which will be assessed using a
standardized technique evaluation rubric developed by the AOT keyboarding

|
Course Attendance: |
Students are expected to
attend all class sessions and are responsible for class work, homework,
lecture notes, reading assignments, etc. Record keeping for attendance
purposes begins the first day the class meets. Students may not miss more
than four (4) days of class. It is the student’s responsibility to keep track
of the number of classes missed. If the number of classes missed exceeds the
four allowed absences, the student will be dropped from the class and will
receive a “W” or “WF” as the final grade based upon the grade status as of
the last class attendance. Please note
that there are no excused absences. The four allowed absences are
to cover all the circumstances that may arise such as illness, personal
issues, or transportation problems that prevent students from attending
class. Students are responsible for completing assignments missed as a result
of being absent. Late arrivals and early dismissals disrupt class and
interfere with student learning. To eliminate disruptions, students should
not be late for class or leave before class has been dismissed. Students
arriving after attendance has been taken are marked absent, and they are
responsible for making sure that the attendance roster gets changed to
reflect the late arrival. Three tardies is
equivalent to one absence. |
||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Withdrawal: |
Should the maximum
allowable absences be exceeded prior to midterm, a "W" will be
submitted to the registrar to be recorded on the student's transcript.
Should the maximum allowable absences be exceeded after midterm, a
"W" will be submitted to the registrar if the student was passing
the course at the time of withdrawal OR a "WF" will be submitted if
the student was failing the course at the time of withdrawal. |

|
Course Grading: |
The course grade is based on the following
components:
Grading of
Speed: The three highest timed
writing scores will be averaged, and the speed scale is as follows:
Timed writings for grading purposes must be for
three minutes and verified by the instructor. Students should check with the
instructor prior to starting timed tests so that she will be available to
record the scores. Students must
complete 3 three minute timed writings with 20 nwpm
or above with no more than three errors in order to pass the course. Grading of
Tests: Students will be given four tests during the
semester. The tests will be averaged and graded according to the departmental
grading scale listed above. Grading of
Technique: Students must demonstrate their ability to keyboard
properly using correct finger reaches and body position (refer to page PH-88
in textbook). The instructor will be
constantly observing the students' body and hand positions. Students will be
given instructor-initiated technique checks and feedback throughout the
semester. Grading of Numeric Keypad: Students
are responsible for completing the numeric keypad exercises in the Irwin
(GDP) software. The numeric keypad exercises are located under the Skillbuilding section of the software. If all
exercises are done by the deadline, the student will receive a grade of 100.
Four points will be deducted for each numeric exercise not completed. Grading of
Homework: Students are to keep up to date with their
assignments. Each student begins with a grade of 100 on homework. Two points
will be deducted from the homework grade for keyboarding lessons not completed
by the due dates and five points will be deducted for lessons not completed. |
