COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course covers the techniques of system analysis, design,
development, and implementation with emphasis on the following:

1) Information Systems and their development.
2)    The system development process.
3)    Managing the development process.
4)    Process analysis techniques.
5)    Data Analysis Techniques.
6)    Using the techniques of the modeling process.
7)    Computer-aided software engineering.
8)    Information gathering.
9)    Communication.
10) Feasibility analysis.
11)  Developing the physical environment.
12)  File and database design.
13)   Constructing a general application design.
14)   The human-computer interface design.
15)   Software design strategies.
16)    Software design objectives and evaluations.
17)    Control and reliability design.
18)    Software testing.
19)   The investigation phase.
20)   Analysis and general design phase.
21)    Detailed design and implementation phase.
22)    Installation phase and review phase.

STUDENT COMPETENCIES: Upon completion of this course, the student should be
competent to perform the following tasks:

1. Conduct a complete systems analysis for a company using the old system as
a model for a new system.
2. Be able to explain the Systems Development Life Cycle model.
3. Develop project flow charts, and data flow diagrams.
4. Establish data requirements.
5. Design files.
6. Formulate a system description using the concepts of UML.
7. Establish software specifications.
8. Implement the new system.
9. Document the new system.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:  It is important to support a policy that is clearly defined
and unambiguous. Therefore, the following class attendance policy applies:   
Students cannot exceed four (4) absences for the Spring Semester and Fall
Semester. Students cannot exceed three (3) absences for the Summer Semester.

CAMPUS EMERGENCY PROTOCOL:  Students and employees are asked to report safety concerns or suspicious activities to Campus Security at 7199(on campus), or 738-7199 (cell phone and off campus). In the event of an emergency, student and employee protocol is to immediately call Campus Security or local 911.  If an emergency occurs, employees and students may seek additional information and instructions via MTC Information Centers, email, college Intranet, the MTC website, campus voice mail and loud speakers.

The College may be closed because of inclement weather. This news should be
available on the website at
www.midlandstech.edu, at the main phone number
at 738-1400, and announced on WIS-TV and radio. Please check frequently in
changeable weather for closings and re-openings. If the College closing or
reopening means that you will have at least 30 minutes of a class, you should
come to class. Please do not call the IST Department office or the President’s
office with closure questions.
