Materials Required: USB Drive of at least 256 MB and Web Hosting
Account with Coldfusion server.

GOAL: To understand design requirements for effective, well structured, easily
navigated Web sites that translate well with assistive technologies.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Understand considerations for defining purpose and audience of a web site.
  2. Identify important factors that influence listings with search engines.
  3. Identify features of effective content design and writing for the web.
  4. Identify factors in web graphics and media that influence page loading.
  5. Describe the importance of cross platform design considerations.
  6. Identify the objectives of effective Web site design.
  7. Describe features that will Design well structured sites that load quickly.
  8. Identify accessibility design issues.
  9. Identify Web design conventions.
  10. Describe types (by purpose) of Web page.
  11. Identify features of effective Web navigation schemes.
  12. Design web usability interviews.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course presents the fundamentals of effective and
accessible web site design.

GRADING: Grades will be based on the course projects, quiz/test results and
participation as measured by attendance and timely completion of assignments
and projects. More detailed information about this course and specifications

All projects must be turned in on or before the due date for that program
or project. No projects will be accepted after the due dates.

Everyone must take the final exam.

Any deviation from this policy must be authorized by the Department Head.

ATTENDANCE POLICY: Students may not miss more than 15% of scheduled classes,
regardless of the reason for the absence. After exceeding this limit, a
student will be withdrawn from the class by the instructor.

in changeable weather for closings and re-openings. If the College closing or
reopening means that you will have at least 30 minutes of a class, you should
come to class. Please do not call the IST Department office or the President’s
office with closure questions.
