COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY

Associate in Computer Technology (CPT)

DESCRIPTION:
A program designed to provide the student with the skills that are necessary to work as computer programmers. The primary focus is on large, enterprise-wide systems with a secondary focus on supporting technologies. The curriculum has been designed to accommodate the local industries. After completing the courses, however, the student should be qualified to work anywhere on the North American continent.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of 72 semester hours is required for graduation. Students must earn a grade of "C" or better in all of the courses offered within the Business and Information Systems Technology departments for the grade to count toward graduation. This includes courses with the following prefixes: ACC, BAF, BUS, CPT, CRP, IST, LEG, MGT, MKT and OST.

PROGRAM ACCREDITATION:
Midlands Technical College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. This program chose not to request reaffirmation by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs for Computer Programming Technology.

PROGRAM NOTES:

  1. Technical computer education courses must be taken in sequence specified in the catalog. There are no exceptions.
  2. General Electives may be selected from any college course above the 100 level. CPT 170 may be taken as the general elective.
  3. Departmental Electives are three-credit hour courses taken within the Information Systems Department. Information Systems prefixes include IST and CPT. CPT 101-Introduction to Computers cannot be used as departmental electives. See List of Approved Departmental Electives.
  4. NOTE: Effective for Fall 2004: CPT 104 and CPT 236 replace CPT 168 and CPT 234. New CPT students should schedule CPT 104 and CPT 236 if they meet the prerequisites.
