WebCT Email 

 The WebCT Email Tool is used to send and receive email messages within each WebCT course.
· You cannot use WebCT Email to send messages outside of your course
· no one can email you "at" your WebCT email address from outside the course

Reading Email Messages
To access WebCT email, click on the email icon  on the home page.
A screen similar to this one will appear.

To view all of the messages, click the All button.  You'll see all of your messages:

icon - indicates new messages.
To read a mail message, just the click the subject line of that message.

To view attachments, click the paperclip icon or the "See Attached" text.
Doing so will give you a window similar to this one:

The left-hand side of this screen shows all attachments (in this case, there is only one attachment... "department.html").


Sending Email Messages
To Send an email message, click the  link at the main Email screen.

The window shown below will appear:

1. Click the  button at the top of the screen.  A listing of all participants in the class will appear:

2. Choose one or more people to email (You can choose the entire list).  Do this by clicking on the name of the person(s) to whom you are sending a message.  To select multiple people, hold down the Control (Windows) or Command (Macintosh) button when you click the names.
3. Click DONE
4. The chosen person's email address should be visible in the "Send to" field
5. Type the title of your email message in the SUBJECT field
6. Compose your message.

7. Click the  button.
If you would like to attach a file to send along with your email, see the Attaching Files to Email Messages section.


Attaching Files to Email Messages
Your instructor may ask you to send a file (or files) to them via email.  This is called "attaching a file to an email."
Complete steps 1-8 in the “sending email” section above.
1. Click the  button located to the right of the paperclip
2. This dialogue box will appear:

3. Navigate your hard drive and select the file you wish to send as an attachment.
4.  Select (highlight) your file
5. Click the "open" button.  This action tells WebCT where the file is located.

HINT: If you don't see the file you are looking for, you might need to change the "Files of type:" setting at the bottom of the File Upload dialogue box.  Changing it to ALL FILES will ensure that you can see all the files in a given directory.

Now you can see the name of your file in the text box next to the Browse... button. Like this:


6. Click the  button.  The file will appear UNDER the "Attach file" button, like this:

7. You can preview your message by clicking the "Preview" button (next to the Send button).
 8.  Click the  button to send the message.
