WebCT Discussions



When you post a message to Discussions, everyone in your class can read it. You may post a "new" message, or reply to a message that someone else posted.

When you first enter Discussions, the screen will look similar to this:

To Read Messages:

  1. Click the All link to see all new messages.
  2. Click on each topic to see or respond to messages posted on that topic.
  3. Clicking a message will allow you to view it.

To Compose a Message:

  1. 1.click the Compose Message link.
  2. Click the arrow to the right of the  "Topic" box.
  3. Choose a topic.  If your message doesn't fit any particular topic (or if there are not additional topics listed), just post your message to the "Main" area.

5.        To preview your message before it is posted to the Discussions Area, you may click the PREVIEW button (this is optional)

6.        Click Post

 

To attach a file to a Message:

Note: Everyone else in the course will be able to access this attachment!

1.      Follow the steps for composing a message.

2.      Click the  button. This dialogue box will appear:

3.      Select the file that you wish to attach

4.      Click the Open button.

a.       The dialogue box will vanish.

b.      You should see the path to your selected file appear the textbox beside the paperclip:

 

5.      Click the  button.

a.       Your file will be uploaded and the textbox will be emptied.

b.      The attached file will appear under the   button, like this:

NOTE: If you accidentally attach a file that you do NOT wish to post to the Discussions Area, you may check the checkbox next to that file and click the "Delete Attachments" button.

6.      Click the  button.


When you return to the Main Menu you (and others) will see a link to your message. Clicking the link will cause your message to be displayed:

If you attached any files to the message, the "See Attached" paperclip will appear. This symbol is a link directly to your attached files.
