Academic Policies and Requirements

Orientation

Student orientation is designed to inform all students -- recent high school graduates, returning students and retirees, as well as those with special needs such as foreign students and students with disabilities -- of the services offered by the college.  Orientation gives students information on college services, college clubs and organizations, financial aid, and college success strategies.  Orientation is also an occasion to learn about the college campuses.  Students are also informed regarding academic advisement and the next steps in the enrollment process.

Several orientation formats are available to meet the diverse needs and convenience of students .  Students may select from CD-ROM, Internet and videotape forms which are all available at no cost.  In addition, several academic programs host program orientation activities for their students.  These program orientations provide opportunities for students to meet fellow students, faculty and staff of the college and program major.  New students who are entering college for the first time are also strongly encouraged to take COL 105, Freshman Seminar, during the first semester in college.  The Freshman Seminar course provides students with college success strategies, learning resources, and college involvement activities.

All new students enrolled at Midlands Technical College are strongly encouraged to participate in the orientation program.  For more information, call 738-8324.
