Radiographer examing x-raysAbout the Career

Radiographers take X-rays and administer nonradioactive materials into patients’ blood streams for diagnostic purposes. Some specialize in diagnostic imaging technologies such as computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). X-ray technologists assist physicians in determining the condition of patients for treating injuries or disease.

Radiographers have much patient contact, so they must possess excellent communication skills, a dependable personality and a mature and caring nature. Radiologic services are offered in various settings such as hospitals, health care facilities, physicians’ offices, mobile imaging companies, industrial plants, research centers, government agencies, commercial sales and marketing.

A person trained in this profession may also specialize or pursue a career as an educator, researcher, consultant or administrator.
