Woman Talking on PhoneAbout the Career

Every organization, from the neighborhood restaurant to the international bank needs leadership and direction. This is the role and responsibility of the company’s managers and supervisors.  Management can be defined as getting things done through others. Managers and supervisors figure out what needs to be done, decide how to best organize the company’s resources, and lead others toward accomplishing their tasks. Managers ensure work is done in a specified time frame and to a predetermined level of quality.

Future managers and supervisors will find exceptional opportunities in many diverse fields and organizations, domestic and international, large and small.  Depending on the organization and level of responsibility, a manager or supervisor might be responsible for leading a small team of frontline employees or designing programs, procedures and policy. Some management opportunities have general responsibility for the operation of a business, but often a manager or a supervisor will become specialized within the organization in areas such as finance, human resources or marketing.

The knowledge needed to be a successful manager in any field includes: technical or business knowledge, human relations or people skills, decision-making skills, professionalism, communication skills, organizational skills, analytical skills and leadership skills.
