About the CareerNew construction and renovation is all around; buildings require heating, ventilation and air conditioning services. There are many different opportunities for careers in this field. These include residential air conditioning, commercial air conditioning, refrigeration, plant maintenance, appliance repair, apartment maintenance, controls and energy management, and sales. Many technicians even go on to open their own business after gaining field experience.
Right now in South Carolina, there is a huge shortage of skilled employees who understand commercial and residential climate control systems. As the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration industry moves into an era of high-technology equipment and state-of-the-art electronic controls, the job of the HVAC/R service technician is becoming a highly skilled and challenging career. The industry needs people who have strong mechanical aptitude, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to learn about electronics and computers.
About the ProgramThe Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning/Refrigeration program at Midlands Technical College is designed to provide entry-level technicians. Hands-on training is combined with theory to provide students with well-balanced preparation for careers that encompass the planning, installation, operation and maintenance of a wide variety of residential and light commercial air conditioning, refrigeration and heating equipment.
