INSTRUCTOR INFORMATION:

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course includes the use of pre-designed integrated accounting software for accounting problems.   (Peachtree 2008 is the software taught in this course, and it comes with the course textbook.)

 

SHOULD YOU CONSIDER TAKING THIS COURSE? MAYBE!! ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS:

•     Do you consider yourself to already be "computer-comfortable?" This course is meant for students who enjoy working with computers, feel comfortable with them, and are not intimidated by computers at all!

•     Are you comfortable using the Internet?

•     Do you have a reliable computer with reliable Internet access?

•     Do you have a GPA of at least 3.0? Students with higher GPA's are more likely to succeed in this internet class.

•     Are you highly motivated?

•     Are you very SELF-DISCIPLINED and NOT a procrastinator? If you tend to put things off and need an instructor to "prod" you a little, then this Internet class is NOT the place for you!! Take this course in the classroom instead!

•     Is this your first time taking this course? If you have taken this course before and not been successful in it, then the Internet approach is NOT recommended for you.

 

If you answer "yes" to all of these questions, this course may be a good choice for you!!


ORIENTATION INFORMATION: Orientation is MANDATORY - do not miss it or you cannot take the course!!  Orientation will be 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM on Thursday, August 21st (fall term) in Congaree Hall room 117 on the Airport Campus.  Orientation is MANDATORY - be sure that you are there or you cannot take the course!!

 

Before you attend orientation, it is your responsibility to ensure that you are a competent user of WebCT 6.0.  You should have already set up your own My WebCT account on http://courses6.midlandstech.edu (and remember your ID and password!!), and added the ACC 246 class. IMPORTANT: You must be sure that your computer passes the "Browser Check" which includes having the correct version of Java - otherwise, you will encounter many problems during the course!!  If you have any problems with this, please call 822-3049 or 822-3423 immediately.

 

GRADE COMPUTATION: 15% of your grade is determined by homework, 15% is determined by two Peachtree projects that you submit, and 70% is determined from two tests. These two tests will be given on two designated Saturdays (or sometimes Friday nights – this will be specified at orientation) on the Airport campus, room Congaree 117.

 

TEXTBOOK: The textbook for this course is "Computerized Accounting with Peachtree 2008" published by EMC Paradigm.  It can be purchased from the MTC bookstore.

ACCESSING THIS COURSE:  Click the “Creating my WebCT Account” at the top of this page for instructions on creating your WebCT account. Once you have created an account, click on “Adding Courses to my WebCT Account” at the top of this page for instructions on adding courses to your WebCT account.   You will not be given a course password to register for this course, but instead you will use the "self-register" approach – if you click on the “person” icon to the far right of the course, you will be added automatically.
