Course description:
This course is the study of electronic commerce and the operations and
applications from the business perspective. Emphasis is placed on business
concepts and strategies and how they apply to the process of buying and selling
goods and services online
Course objectives
After completion of this
course, a student will be able to:
1. Explain the roots of the Internet
2. Compare and contrast network topologies
3. Describe three levels of web sites
4. Explain how companies incrementally develop business activities on the web
5. Select and register domain names
6. Register a web site with a search engine
7. Describe e-commerce business models and give examples of how revenue can be
generated on the Internet
8. Summarize the principles of the main types of online business-to-consumer
(B2C) activities
9. Explain the marketing value of domain name recognition
10. Discuss how the increased use of the Internet increases threats to privacy
11. Explain encryption
12. Explain current legislation and legal challenges facing parties engaged in
e- commerce
13. List and compare online alternatives to traditional payment methods
