Our advisory committees
members reflect diversity in the workplace and assist us in cooperative
educational activities. They help us maintain open-communications with the
business community that we serve.
Overview:
To
help students achieve their goals and prosper
in today's competitive society, the Business and Public Service Department solicits the
contributions of advisory committee members. Advisory Committee members
assist in developing, planning, and marinating programs of study that are
relevant in the rapidly changing workplace.
We rely on their expertise to help the department provide the highest quality education to help ensure our students' achievements and our community's prosperity.
The Business and Public Service Department has a separate Advisory Committee for the Accounting, Management, and Marketing programs, the Paralegal program, Criminal Justice, and Human Services programs. Responsibilities of
Advisory Committee Members:
An advisory committee is the direct link between a specific program at MTC
and the business, professional, and industrial communities of the Midlands.
As formal body, an advisory committee provides practical counsel and advise
to the faculty and administrators of the program it serves.
An advisory committee's responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide occupational information
- Assess employment trends
- Recommend specific competencies needed by new employees and for retraining of employees
- Review program entrance requirements for students
- Recommend selection criteria for filling faculty vacancies
- Review the curriculum of the program
- Recommend the acquisition of instructional equipment and faculties
- Assist in student recruitment, placement and cooperative educational activities
- Assist in evaluation of the program and its graduates
- Suggest and support legislation as necessary
- Serve as a communications channel between the college and the community
- Identify resources that can support the program
- Recommend adjunct instructors
Appointments to
Committees:
The department chair or designee submits nominations for membership on
an advisory committee to the Vice President for Career Programs. The
following items: professional expertise and diversity of job
responsibilities, geographic representation, employment affiliation, and
race and general diversity.
In addition, in order to ensure objectivity, the committee should not be composed predominately of program alumni or adjunct faculty teaching in the program.
The term of appointment for committee members shall normally be three years. Members shall not not serve more than two consecutive terms unless market conditions make subsequent terms necessary.
