First Day Class Fears and How to Overcome Them The first day of class is always nerve-racking. You don’t know anything about your professor or what they expect, what the class is really about, and how much work you will have to do in order to make the grade you want. I think as long as you can identify that those are your main fears, you should feel better already. I always sit in the front of the class, so I can’t see all of the other students, and so that I can see the teacher. It’s a good idea to make yourself recognizable to the teacher, as they are much more likely to help you if they remember your face. Look over your syllabus and try to space your assignments and tests. If you know you have a test every Friday, then you can make a study schedule accordingly. If you know that Thursday is your big homework day, you can then be prepared. Find the pattern in the work, and everything will just fall into place. Remember that teaching is a difficult job, as well. They stand in front of a room full of people, who may or may not want to be there. They teach the same material over and over to several classes a semester. They have families and lives just like yours. They get speeding tickets trying to get to work on time, have sick kids, and bad days just like you do. They are just as nervous about their new class as you are, so feel better knowing that you don’t have to sweat it out in front of the class and get to relax in the safety of your own desk. |
